2022 Home Design Trends

Believe it or not, the time has come to discuss 2022 home design trends. The new year is right around the corner, so let’s take a look at what is to come with interior home design.

Seven 2022 Home Design Trends

1. Basic Interior Colors

If you started working remotely from home during the pandemic, you probably realized very quickly that the key to a 24/7 family-filled home is a calm and serene atmosphere. Basic and neutral colors relax us all, especially if you throw in some muted tones. Neutral colors include black, white, and shades of gray with beige as the most relevant base color, both in cold and warm shades. Here’s a fun fact: Paint brand Dulux, an international brand of architectural paint, named “Bright Skies” the Color of the Year for 2022 – it’s described as an “airy, light blue” that perfectly captures the optimism and desire for a fresh start. This aligns with the micro-trend of classic blue palette from 2021 that will probably continue into the new year.

2. Rounded Shapes

As rigid as all our lives can be, it can be nice to relax in the softness and comfort of furniture without corners. Lots of designer furniture takes out the right angles and opts for a softer and more rounded design.

3. Minimalism

Minimalism is recognized as the fashionable interior theme of 2022. During the pandemic, many tried to take control in the form of cleaning out of their home by getting rid of old non-functional things. Form is a key element in minimalism and holds more of a modern approach. To ensure the space looks finished with that final touch, make sure the furniture holds an interesting shape.

4. Inspiration from Nature

The most popular textures used for decoration and furniture are stone, onyx, marble, granite, and wood. They can all be used as an inviting way to bring the outside in. Wood paneling on the wall or floor in light colors can add to the naturalistic theme.

5. Combined Spaces with Privacy

There was a time when separate rooms were the norm, but lately designers have been looking at creative ways to combine rooms. Since more people are now also working from home, areas need to be more thought out to prioritize functionality.

6. Equipped Workplace

Most employees are still working from home, and lots will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Working at the kitchen table or on the couch is not always the most convenient, and you can equip yourself with a more comfortable home and office. If renovation is not on your agenda, try rearranging furniture or ensuring lots of natural light.

7. Home Gardening

This is considered a global trend as well as a micro-trend. During quarantine, people really began to examine their closeness with nature. Many were forced to be inside so much that they became increasingly more comfortable with spaces that had indoor plants. You can always start small with a few potted plants and “grow” from there!

Trends will always be coming and going, which is why you get to pick and choose which you decide to align with. You can always make a few adjustments here and there to keep up to date, and please don’t hesitate to call 833-GET-AVID for help on your upcoming home design projects!
